The Rural Development  Institute
The Rural Development Institute is based in Mansakonko in the Lower River Division where it is currently the training unit of the Department of State for local government and lands. From inception in 1979 to date, it has been the leading institution in the Gambia in the promotion of training of rural development practitioners both in government and non-governmental organizations. The present activities of the institute are limited to a regular two-year certificate course in Integrated Rural Development.

RDI has established an excellent relationship with WARD, and its staff has participated actively in the delivery of WARD training programs. The principal of the institute has benefited from the in-Canada Training of Trainers program and three other RDI staff have also received training on facilitation techniques organized by WARD. The principal is a member of WARD's advisory committee and takes part in all its sittings.
